BW Gislet 1.0 - A world level map control (ActiveX) for user interaction and data display Overview - This world map control (ActiveX) allows developers to build applications in which the user selects a country by clicking on it or to display country level statistics. Applications - Uses include geographic quizzes and the presentation of demographic material and business and educational applications which require an interactive world map. Description - BW Gislet provides two means of controlling the user interface. It can be controlled programmatically using methods such as MapCenter which centers the map at a specified location or ColorObject which sets the color of a country. The programming input can be minimized by using the built-in interface which facilitates zooming to a region and the use of a navigation tool for zoom and pan operations. The events, properties and methods of the control use the ISO 3166 two character country codes. The coordinate system uses Longitude and Latitude. The delivery package contains the code for an application which includes a quiz and a statistical display. Development Environment & Dependencies - BW Gislet has been developed in MS VB6. It has only been tested in VB6. It is planned to test in additional environments after the initial release. The control requires version 6.0 of the VB Runtime, Common Controls(1) and the Common Dialog, these are not included in the distribution. The cartographic data used by the control is contained in an application specific database which is approximately 1.5 MB. License - The basic license allows the control to be used for personal use or within the organisational unit which purchased the activation code. An additional license is required if the control is to be used in commercial product. The development software is licensed on a single machine basis. The activation code which is installed over internet is specific to the machine from which the software is activated.
